The dentist is very good. The office is also very nice and neat. I would recommend Dr. Amit to anyone. ~ Saieshwari R
In any treatment plan, our goal is to act as conservatively as possible. Even with the dental implant, we take measures to simplify the process and improve long-term success. As we have learned more about the overall process of dental implants, we have made advances that benefit the implant patient.
In some cases, we have learned it is possible to place implants immediately following the extraction of failing teeth. In fact, this immediate placement comes with an excellent prognosis and quicker integration. Looking closer at the substructures and bodily process related to implants will help you understand the benefits of immediate dental implants from your Vernon Hills dentist.
When a tooth is lost there is an empty socket, but only for some time. Gradually, bone will fill the empty socket. When a patient visits his or her dentist many months, or even years, after the loss of a tooth, the implant process requires two steps, at least, and typically many months of healing.
The Two-Step implant process
To begin the typical implant process, an implant or implants are placed after the jawbone has been prepared. This means a socket has to be created for the implant. After drilling a socket, the implant is placed and gum tissue is stitched over the top. Over two to six months, bone tissue fuses to the implant in a process called osseointegration. This integration into bone tissue allows the dental implant to be a lifelong restoration.
After the initial placement of a dental implant, the patient may need to return to the dentist for the removal of sutures, as well as for several other follow-ups to assess progression of healing. After it has been determined that the implant has sufficiently integrated into the jawbone, this base will be uncovered by a small cut in the gum tissue, and an abutment is affixed. Gum tissue is then stitched around the abutment, which is the part of an implant that connects to the artificial tooth or denture. Gum tissue will need to heal for a week or two, after which the implant can be fitted with a permanent restoration.
The immediate implant process
When teeth need to be extracted and dental implants placed, the entire process can be completed in a single visit. This is possible because of the presence of an open socket where the natural root lies. Not only does immediate placement eliminate the need for a second procedure, it has also been shown to shorten the total recovery time in which healthy bone tissue grows around the implant.
